Beautiful Thanksgiving Facts
Hello Sweet Friend!
I hope your week is filled with gratitude for all the blessings the Father has given you, namely His Son, Jesus Christ. When my grandmother, Rosalie, was alive, she always welcomed a few friends that were bachelors or widows to her family table around the holidays. What a great time to show hospitality to those who might not have their tribes nearby!
Best facts about Thanksgiving - no, not our American holiday (although I am thankful for that too), but the opportunity to give thanks to the One worthy of all the worship!
As you think about the ways you are thankful this year and maybe even share around the table tomorrow, I want to encourage you to 7 Days of Gratitude.
7-Day Gratitude Challenge:
Day 1:
Take a moment and journal 3 things or people you are grateful for. If you have more time than just writing a quick list, write out the "why" for each one. Why is this person or thing so important to you? Put it somewhere you can revisit in frustrating or lonely times.
Day 2:
Take the time to make a list of things you have accomplished this year. But instead of focusing on the "I did this" factor, think about the ways that God enabled you, gifted you, lead you, taught you, mentored you, grew a passion in you for this thing, etc. A Thanksgiving-focused list, rather than an ego-focused one.
Day 3:
Think back to the person you were on January 1, 2022. Take the time to pray a thanksgiving prayer for all the times this year that God led you to repentance, changed you, helped you mature in the Lord, gave you an opportunity to work/love/do in His name. There are so many times this year that the Lord has stepped in and helped me trust Him more!
Day 4:
Show a small kindness to someone today. Give them your undivided attention for 5-10 minutes or longer. Open a door for someone. Smile at someone and really look them in the eye. Address a service worker by name, if you know it or can see a name tag. Be thankful the Lord created that person in His image and loves them enough to die on the cross and rise again for them.
Day 5:
Take a moment to thank the Lord for your basic needs. Food, clothing, shelter. Look around and find one small place to organize out of gratitude. Good stewardship is a great way to honor God and thank Him for all He has provided for you.
Day 6:
Give to those in need. This can be as simple as donating unused clothing, toys, or food items. This can also include volunteering at a community organization or serving in your church. Giving out of your abundance, giving of your time or talent, and taking time away from your routine can help you really see the people in your community and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Day 7:
Think back over the last 7 days. Write down 3 ways you were blessed by thinking of others, doing for others, and considering the wonderful love and generosity of Jesus!
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your friends and family this year!
Blessings,
~ Stephanie
